Keep Wimberley Beautiful Needs Your Help!
This Saturday, September 28 is the day to help the great folks at Keep Wimberley Beautiful... well... keep Wimberley beautiful. They're meeting at Cragg's Hardware at 8am and they'll fan out to pick up roadside trash from Winter's Mill Road to Old Oaks Ranch Road.
They ask that you wear closed toed shoes, but they'll provide everything else, including reflective vests, gloves, grabbers, trash bags, sunscreen, bug spray, water and snacks.
Got junk? It's almost time for the annual Fall Community Clean-Up Day, which takes place on Saturday, October 26 from 8am until full or 12pm at the Lions Field across from Gate Two on FM 2325. Get rid of all that junk like old furniture, appliances, sinks, toilets and other stuff. Hazardous materials and other items like paints, motor oil, mattresses and box springs, brush, or tires are not accepted. There will also be an on-site document shredder that morning.
The Hays County Constables will also be hosting their semi-annual Drug Take Back Day on the 26th, where you can drop off unwanted or expired prescription drugs at their offices, located at 200 Stillwater. The take-back goes from 10am to 2pm.
Mark Your Calendars: KWVH Community Appreciation Party is October 16!
KWVH is hosting a party, and YOU'RE invited! It takes place on Wednesday, October 16 from 5pm to 7pm at the Wimberley Community Center. It'll feature live music performances by Maxwell Pearl, Sam Downing, and Mage Buse. We'll have complimentary beer, wine, and margaritas, so stop by and unwind for a bit with your pals from Wimberley Valley Radio. Tell your friends and neighbors!
Not coincidentally, the party will wrap up our pledge drive that begins next Monday, September 30th. Look for more information on how you can help out your hometown radio station next week.
Wimberley Texan Update.
Our Texan volleyball squad continues their absolute tear through the season. They beat Chaparral three games to zero last week, and they face Veterans Memorial at home on Tuesday at 6pm. They're rated #1 in Texas Conference 4A.
On the gridiron, the Texans dropped a close one to the Lampasas Badgers, 35-27. Despite the loss, the Texans finished the game with 321 rushing yards, while quarterback Cody Stoever alone racked up 222 yards and three TDs on the ground and 161 yards and a score in the air. And if you haven't heard, Stoever exemplified Texan Pride as he consoled an injured Lampasas player.
Meanwhile, the Texan Band drumline placed second last week at the Thunder in the Hills contest in Dripping Springs, beating out some 5A and 6A schools.
GOOO TEXANS!
KWVH and VFW Post 6441 Salute
Captain S.L. "Snake" Robertson III
We salute Capt. Robertson as our Veteran of the Week. He truly embodies courage and dedication through his service with distinction in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1971. As a Cobra helicopter pilot, he faced the most perilous of missions with unyielding resolve. His service took him across Texas and Kentucky, but it was in the unforgiving and war-torn jungles of Vietnam where Snake truly proved his mettle, earning the prestigious Bronze Star and numerous Air Medals for his bravery and precision in aerial combat. Thanks, Snake Robertson for your service!
